The development of steel frame building
Compared with brick-concrete buildings, steel structure buildings have obvious advantages in environmental protection, energy saving, high efficiency, and factory production. The 325-meter-high Diwang Building in Shenzhen, the 421-meter-high Jin Mao Tower in Pudong, Beijing, Beijing’s Jingguang Center, the Bird’s Nest, the new CCTV building, and the Water Cube all use steel structures. Beijing, Shanghai, Shandong, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia and other provinces and cities have begun pilot projects of steel structure housing, among which Beijing Jinchen Apartment has been listed as a demonstration project of residential steel structure system by the Ministry of Construction. High-rise steel structure buildings are not uncommon. People predict that the 21st century will be the century of metal structures, and steel structures will become the backbone of the new building era. Humans began to use pig iron in the 1770s and wrought iron to build bridges and houses in the early 19th century. The history of steel structure development is longer than that of reinforced concrete structures, and its vitality is getting stronger and stronger. In the United States, more than 70% of the non-residential construction market for low-rise buildings such as less than two floors is made of architectural metal products. Among the 101 super high-rise buildings completed in the world, 16 are reinforced concrete structures, 59 are pure steel structures, and 27 are steel-concrete mixed structures of different forms. The machinery industry, automobile industry, agriculture, petroleum industry, commerce, and transportation industries have developed rapidly.
Asia's largest steel structure botanical pavilion-on January 23, 2013, the main body of the Botanical Pavilion in Qingdao Expo, China was topped off, and its shape was designed in the shape of leaves. The Botanical Pavilion project is located in Baiguoshan Forest Park, north of Tianshui Road. It covers an area of 2.44 hectares and has a total construction area of 22,749 square meters. One of the structural plant pavilions, the total project cost is 293 million yuan [2].
Because its shape is in the shape of a leaf, it requires a total of about 3,000 tons of steel structure, more than 14,000 assembling rods, more than 17,000 meters of welded seam, and more than 15,000 pieces of special glass. Therefore, the construction is difficult and the process is extremely strict. The task of splicing and welding of structures on site is particularly heavy, and the lifting is particularly difficult. The total length of welds of steel structures spliced on site alone is more than 17,000 meters, which is equivalent to the welding volume of 10,000 tons of conventional steel structure projects.
